Elder Y6 English and Geography

At the start of the summer term, the children read a range of Mexican folk tales. They looked at the features of folk tales, e.g. events or characters appear in threes, often has a moral/lesson etc. They used the features of folk tales to write their own Mexican tale. Some of their titles were authentic too, e.g. The Mariquita (ladybird). This has led us on to learning about the geography of Mexico. Using a range of maps, they have located cities, bordering countries, seas and biomes. They are becoming aware of how diverse the Mexican culture and landscape is. Our 'journey' into Mexico will continue for the next few weeks and who knows, there might even be some budding travellers in the making!
