Welcome to Aspen Class! 

There are two classes in Key Stage 1 for children aged 5 – 7 (Yew and Aspen).  There is one Year 1 class and one Year 2 class. Although they have their own curriculum, they may sometimes join together for learning or assemblies. 

Welcome to Aspen Class, we are a happy, enthusiastic and willing group of both children and adults. My name is Mrs Vickery-Cox and I have the pleasure of being Aspen’s class teacher, with Miss Cook also teaching some subjects. With the incredible help of Miss Goodwin, we strive to inspire and ignite the interest and love of learning with our amazing children. Across the year we have lots of exciting learning coming up in all subjects. We have some fantastic texts in English this year which I know the children will be excited about. It is always great starting the history unit of ‘Schools from the past’ as the children get to compare our lovely classroom to a class in the 1900s. I think they will prefer Aspen. This year will also include some favourite experiences such as the fire service visiting and a trip to Woburn Safari park. We believe that our classroom is a safe and supportive environment to try and take risks, make errors and work to our fullest. The class motto is that “It doesn’t matter if we are wrong, as we are here to learn”. Seeing each individual progressing across the year, in any way, is the biggest thrill that we have and feeling proud sits right alongside that. Each day I am so pleased to see such cheerful faces coming in ready to learn and I just know that this year is going to another great year, I am so lucky to be a part of the journey.

General housekeeping

Doors open at 8.55 for the children in KS1 to enter.

P. E day is a Tuesday, so the children should come to school in their kit for this day each week. Please ensure that all items, including hoodies, are labelled.

Special person is a Monday and the dates on which they need to bring in their special items can be found in the front of their reading diaries.

Library day is a Thursday, so the children should aim to bring their books in on that day.

Spelling tests will be carried out each Friday, so the books will need to be in on that Monday.

Reading books and diaries need to come in daily.
