Meet the Governors

Cath Bainbridge -  Headteacher

I am the proud Head of Maple Tree Primary.

I have been a governor of Maple Tree since I started my job here as Deputy Head in September 2015. The meetings are interesting and I am proud to be part of a team who care so passionately about the school and making a difference to the lives of all of our children.

Ted Rowland - Trust Governor and Chair of Governing Body

I am a serving Police Sergeant. I have served for over twenty years, all in Bedfordshire. My roles have included General Patrol, Public Order Tactical Advisor, Specialist Training Manager, Force Control Room Supervisor, Domestic Abuse & Violence Against The Person Unit in Luton, Community Crime Investigation and my current role is Local Policing Operations covering the North of the County.

I am currently Chair of Governors at Maple Tree Primary School.  I am also the link governor for Safeguarding and Looked After Children for both schools.

I also sit on the School Admission, School Transport and Exclusion Appeals Panels for Central Beds Council.

Thorold Guy - Parent Governor

I have been a governor for over 7 years and sit on the curriculum sub-committee.  I have 2 children in Maple Tree.  I became a governor to learn more about the school system and to help the school and it's pupils on their learning journey.

Cllr Caroline Maudlin - Local Authority Governor

I am one of the Central Bedfordshire Council Ward Members for Beeston, Blunham, Fallowfield & Sandy.  As well as being elected into local government I work for Virgin Atlantic Airways as a Flight Service Manager and  runs my own business manufacturing and selling 'Simply Gone' a moss & algae killer for hard surfaces.  In my limited spare time I love walking my dogs, riding my motorbikes, skiing & playing golf, plus raising money for Charity which has included several annual theatre productions with West End performers and recently a Rickshaw Run in India.

Clarice Champion - Staff Governor

I have been a staff governor for the past three years and I feel this voluntary role gives me a wider perspective of the work of the school and is a unique opportunity for me to develop a broader understanding of leadership and management. I am proud of the fact that I played a part in the recruiting of our current Headteacher and Deputy. I particularly enjoy being involved with setting targets for student achievement and making sure the curriculum is balanced.

Kim Varley - Co-opted Governor

As School Manager I have been fortunate enough to become a co-opted member of the Governing body.  I am looking forward to working with Governors who, like me, are enthusiastic about shaping the future of our school to ensure the best education possible for all our pupils.

Carly Mowbray - Associate Governor

My name is Carly Mowbray.  I'm a new Governor to school this year. I recently retired from work to look after my two children with SEND and want to offer my knowledge of change project management to Maple Tree during this time of transition.  I have a particular interest in maths and special needs and am an active parent on the PTA. I hope to meet and speak to more parents as the year progresses.

Jo Cleary - Parent Governor

In my Governor role I am Vice Chair for the Curriculum  Committee. I am also on the Headteacher Appraisal Committee and a Link Governor for English.

I worked as an HR professional for many years and I have volunteered my time on a weekly basis at Maple Tree for the last five years. As a volunteer, I thoroughly enjoy interacting with the children and helping them with various learning activities.

As a Governor, I am committed to help make the right decisions to provide the best outcome for children at Maple Tree.

Andy King - Parent Governor

I’ve been a Governor at Maple Tree for several years, having previously been the Chair of Sandy Pre-school, and I have two children at Maple Tree, in Years 3 and 5. As Chair of the Curriculum Committee, it’s my responsibility to ensure our curriculum adheres to national guidelines, as well as monitoring staff training, policies, and helping to deliver the School Development Plan.

I’ve worked in IT for Tesco for over twenty years, so it’s natural that I should be the link governor for Technology at Maple Tree. In my spare time, I’m a Cub Scout Leader in Sandy, and I’ve also recently begun learning karate.

Ben Truppin - Parent Governor

Hello everyone, my name’s Ben and I’m a parent governor with three children at Maple Tree, so like you, I have a keen interest in ensuring the school delivers the best for our children.  Professionally I am a management consultant and help household names improve their digital customer journeys and help shape their business investment strategies.  I hope to use this experience to guide the school and help Cath and her team achieve as much as we can in the context of the ever challenging school budget.  Personally, I am delighted we have secured considerable investment in our early years teaching facilities and am looking forward to guiding the school during my period of governorship.

Jenny Thompson - Co-opted Governor

I have 2 children at the school in Years 3 and Reception.  I have worked in the Scientific Publishing industry for my whole career starting off in various editorial roles and now in a more customer facing commercial role.  With parents for teachers I was fairly immersed in the education system growing up and I am really looking forward to being involved in the future of the school and it's pupils.  I currently sit on the Resources sub committee.

Phillip Truppin - Co-opted Governor

I retired in 2018 from full time work as a Town Clerk in Berkshire and am now resident on the Fallow Field estate.

I am a recently co-opted governor but also have grandchildren at the school.  I have joined the Curriculum Committee and have indicated that I would like to take a particular interest in Modern Foreign Languages and the teaching of Music.

I also would like to work to encourage Community Links wherever possible.
